Frequently Asked Questions

What size cake pan is most common?

Most layer cake recipes use two 8 or 9 inch round pans; sheet cakes use a 9 x 13 inch pan.

Are aluminum or nonstick cake pans better?

Light aluminum bakes the most evenly with flat tops; nonstick releases more easily but can brown edges faster.

Will a Pyrex lid fit a metal 9 x 13 pan?

Usually not; use a stretchy silicone lid like OXO’s instead.

Final Verdict

OXO’s silicone lid is the best replacement lid for cake pans. Choose the Pyrex replacement lids for Pyrex dishes.
