- Chill and repeat for sharper edges.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a cake scraper and a bench scraper?
A cake scraper is tall and smooths frosting on the sides of a cake; a bench scraper is a short, sturdy blade for dough that also works on short cakes.
Should I buy a steel or plastic cake scraper?
Steel stays straight and gives sharper edges; plastic is cheaper and fine for occasional cakes.
Can I use a bench scraper on a tall cake?
Only up to its height; for tall cakes, a 10 to 12 inch cake scraper works better.
Final Verdict
OXO’s bent spatula is the best alternative to a cake scraper. A bench scraper handles short cakes well.
