Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a cake smoother and a cake scraper?

A smoother is a flat paddle you press over fondant or buttercream; a scraper is a tall blade you hold against the cake while it turns.

Do I need a smoother for fondant?

Yes; a fondant smoother presses out air bubbles and leaves a glossy, even finish your hands cannot.

Why use two smoothers?

Pressing two smoothers together on the edge gives sharp corners on fondant cakes.

Final Verdict

The Ateco 1301 smoother is the best cake smoother. Choose Innovative Sugarworks for flexible smoothers.
